Introduction
The University has a Risk Management Framework which applies to all levels and
functions across the University. Accountability for the management of risk lies with
Court, the Audit and Risk Committee, the Risk Management Committee, and the
Senior Management Team. The Risk Management Framework aligns with best
practice and internationally recognised standards for risk management, such as the
ISO31000 Risk Management Principals and Guidelines document. Risk management
should be integrated as an important governance and management function in
every area, making it part of daily business considerations, and a key factor which
drives decision-making.
Aims and Objectives
The aim of this document is to signpost individuals tasked with the exercise to
create a Risk Register, to the activities involved in creating a comprehensive one
that will cover all aspects of their division.
In order to do this, we will work on the following objectives:
• Familiarise ourselves with the relevant terminology and the meaning behind it
• Identify the areas which may pose risks
• Understand how risk appetite, risk scoring, risk treatment and risk tolerance
relate to each risk
• Summarise all the above in a pre-defined comprehensive document, the Risk
Register
